Research and Fieldwork

We provide independent heritage services as part of Garsdale Design and undertake desktop assessments, historic research, and interpretation for a range of development projects.  Our Heritage Assessments are high-quality professional documents focused on satisfying a planning authorities requirements. They assess the potential impacts on designated or non-designated heritage assets to identify the most sustainable way to deliver development.

Heritage Assessment

Heritage Assessments are undertaken to Historic England recording levels.  This ensures appropriate building recording, including a detailed photographic record and survey drawings of the fabric. We consult the relevant regional Historic Environment Record HER) and other readily available sources of archaeological and historic information.

Due to our extensive local experience, our heritage work is readily accepted in providing a detailed account of the genealogy and building features of a heritage asset.  In many cases we have been able to establish the history of a building where it is essential for its reoccupation as a dwelling.

Historic Buildings

Historic Building Recording is conducted either manually with tapes and rods or by means of photogrammetric methods. Drawings and 3D models are produced with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and can be supplemented with hand-drawn sketches where appropriate.
